One of our Area Managers enjoys nothing more than spending time in the ocean. In fact he even enjoys diving with Sharks, and cant wait for the Covid-19 travel restrictions to ease so he can get back to his travels.
We caught up with Alex to ask him a few questions:
Please can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your job role, and how long you have worked for Savills Catering?
I am one of three Area managers at Savills Catering and have been with the company since November 2019.
The role is field based, looking after 10 residential homes. It is multi-faceted; we provide the catering and cleaning to various home along with the home shopping. The menus are bespoke for each home, constructed with residents’ input and include their favourite dishes.
The role involves visiting each site at least once a week, supporting the teams, meeting residents and staff of the home, making any changes to the menus or home shopping for residents as requested, arranging resident forums when covid restrictions allow.
What do you like most about your job role?
I like to work with my teams to continually innovate and improve the catering provisions for all of our residents. I enjoy constructing seasonal menus and seeing people enjoying the meals we provide. I work hard to make sure the residents have any queries answered promptly.
Where is your favourite place in the world to visit? And why do you love it so much?
My Favourite place is actually two small islands in the Red Sea. I love diving with sharks on reefs around Little Brother and Big Brother Islands. This can only be done from a boat that you live on for the week, cruising around the islands with lots of diving for good fun.
What food do you like to eat / cook? Do you have a signature dish?
I love a simple potato dish called Rosti, which is cooked grated potatoes fried golden in a small frying pan, topped with poached egg and smoked haddock, served with freshly made hollandaise sauce. This time of year I also love simple salads and smoked fish with fresh lemon.
What is the most daring thing you have ever done?
Snowboarding in my younger years going down very steep gullies after fresh snowstorms.
What is the best film you have ever watched, and why did you enjoy it so much?
For me it’s the James Bond film, ‘Octopussy’, a lot of which was filmed in Peterborough. This is my hometown, and my dad was an extra in it. He had to hold a fishing rod for 3 minutes !! It’s been a running joke for years in my family that Roger Moore was actually a co-star to my Dad in the film.
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list ?
1. See base camp Everest or get close to it to see Everest and the maintains of Nepal
2. Do a parachute jump
3. See F1 in Monaco
If you could invite 3 celebrities to dinner, who would you choose and why?
1. Any of lead Zeplin the original rockers. I would love to hear some old school rock legend stories directly from them.
2. Ferran Adrià chef from ‘El Bully’ restaurant in Spain. Try to find out what drives him.
3. Barack Obma because he would be such an interesting guest to chat to.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself?
I am a qualified scuba diving instructor. Before covid I enjoyed teaching each week, taking new divers from absolute beginner to the first open water and sea dives off the club boat and seeing the excitement of their first dive.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us. We hope everyone has enjoyed hearing from you.
